So what is Sin?The question," what is sin ”, is very important when trying to lead a Christian life. We all know the easy answer, any breaking of a commandment. My research tells a lot about the little things that also need to be taken into consideration. It gives much advise about holding your tongue, forgiving others, your actions, and thoughts that can also condemn you. All of the verses below come straight from the Bible. I did not add to them. This is a long list because people, over the years, have tried to justify why they are not doing wrong. Therefore, it has been expressed many different ways. I have given a summary at the end of my opinion as to "what is sin ".
Genesis 3 Describes how sin caused the Fall of Man. Genesis 4:7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it. Proverbs 5:22 The evil deeds of a wicked man ensnare him; the cords of his sin hold him fast. Proverbs 10:19 When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise. Proverbs 12:13 An evil man is trapped by his sinful talk, but a righteous man escapes trouble. Proverbs 13:6 Righteousness guards the man of integrity, but wickedness overthrows the sinner. Proverbs 13:21 Misfortune pursues the sinner, but prosperity is the reward of the righteous. Proverbs 14:9 Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright. Proverbs 14:21 He who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is he who is kind to the needy. Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people. Proverbs 16:6 Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD a man avoids evil. Proverbs 17:19 He who loves a quarrel loves sin; he who builds a high gate invites destruction. Proverbs 20:9 Who can say, "I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin"? Proverbs 21:4 Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin! Proverbs 23:17 Do not let your heart envy sinners, but always be zealous for the fear of the LORD. Proverbs 24:9 The schemes of folly are sin, and men detest a mocker. Proverbs 28:13 He who conceals his sins does not prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy. Proverbs 29:6 An evil man is snared by his own sin, but a righteous one can sing and be glad. Proverbs 29:16 When the wicked thrive, so does sin, but the righteous will see their downfall. Proverbs 29:22 An angry man stirs up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins. Ecclesiastes 7:20 There is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins. Ecclesiastes 9:18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good. Isaiah 1:4 Ah, sinful nation, a people loaded with guilt, a brood of evildoers, children given to corruption! They have forsaken the LORD; they have spurned the Holy One of Israel and turned their backs on him. Isaiah 1:28 But rebels and sinners will both be broken, and those who forsake the LORD will perish. Isaiah 3:9 The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves. Isaiah 5:18 Woe to those who draw sin along with cords of deceit, and wickedness as with cart ropes, Isaiah 13:9 See, the day of the LORD is coming —a cruel day, with wrath and fierce anger— to make the land desolate and destroy the sinners within it. Jeremiah 5:25 Your wrongdoings have kept these away; your sins have deprived you of good. Jeremiah 11:10 They have returned to the sins of their forefathers, who refused to listen to my words. They have followed other gods to serve them. Both the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken the covenant I made with their forefathers. Galatians 6:1 [ Doing Good to All ] Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Galatians 6:8 The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Ephesians 1:7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace 1 Thessalonians 4:6 and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. 1 Timothy 5:20 Those who sin are to be rebuked publicly, so that the others may take warning. 1 Timothy 5:24 The sins of some men are obvious, reaching the place of judgment ahead of them; the sins of others trail behind them. Titus 3:10-11 10Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him. 11You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned. Hebrews 3:13 But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness. Hebrews 4:15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. Hebrews 7:27 Unlike the other high priests, he does not need to offer sacrifices day after day, first for his own sins, and then for the sins of the people. He sacrificed for their sins once for all when he offered himself. Hebrews 10:26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, James 1:15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. James 5:20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 1 Peter 4:8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. 1 John 1:8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:10 If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. 1 John 2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. 1 John 3:9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. 1 John 5:17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death. I like Galatians 6:8 because it indicates that man has a sinful nature. When you act to please the Holy spirit through faith in Jesus Christ, you are in fact choosing not to live by the sinful nature. This is what Jesus tells us to do with one simple command. Love your neighbor as yourself.I think all actions thoughts, and speech that puts distance between a person and God is sin. It all needs to be accounted for. The reason that I think God has left it in man is simple. He wants a relationship with you. It is a constant reminder for you to seek him. You can do that by asking for forgiveness of those sins that you struggle with. By doing this you will make your walk closer to the Lord. God Bless you. In summary this is what I have found.
