All about Forgiveness
Forgiveness is the one thing that we all want. We want it from God. The good news is that God has given it freely. He did this through his son Jesus Christ. Jesus shed his own innocent blood for all the unworthy people in the world. The hard part is that in order for it to be given to us, you have to give it to others. You have heard the "reap what you sow" phrase. It holds true here as well. Everyone knows how easy it is to hold a grudge against someone for whatever they have done. This is where slander, gossip, hatred, and anger thrives. The first step in excusing someone of their sins is to ask God for his help. The reason you need help is because humans have a sinful nature. This nature makes you want to hate this person. Not only that but you want others to hate them as well. Only God, where amnesty comes from, can help you get over it. The next thing you have to do is shut your mouth. Talking about it only makes it worse. The stuff you say actually makes this hate grow inside of you. Every time you feel like releasing the slander, take a deep breath and thank God for his help in forgiving that person. I know this is much easier to say than to actually do it. You can learn to forgive others, but it is going to take the grace of God to make it happen. The secret to overlooking the sins of others is to pray. Below I have put together some of the verses from the Bible that talk about this great gift. It is my hope that they can help you overcome this problem. Once you learn to excuse others God will gladly forget all the things that you have done wrong in his eyes.
Psalm 130:3-5
3 If you, O LORD, kept a record of sins, O Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness;
therefore you are feared. I wait for the LORD, my soul waits,
and in his word I put my hope.
Matthew 26:27-29
27Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. tell you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father's kingdom."
Luke 1:76-78
And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven
Acts 2:38-39
Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call."
Acts 10:42-44
He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name." While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.
Acts 13:38
Therefore, my brothers, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.
Ephesians 1:6-8
to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding.
Colossians 1:9-14
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Hebrews 9:15-24
For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant. In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it, because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living. This is why even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood. When Moses had proclaimed every commandment of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves, together with water, scarlet wool and branches of hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people. He said, "This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep." In the same way, he sprinkled with the blood both the tabernacle and everything used in its ceremonies. In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God's presence.
Mark 11:24-26
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins."
Prayers to help you from Psalms
Psalm 19:12-13
Who can discern his errors? Forgive my hidden faults. Keep your servant also from willful sins; may they not rule over me. Then will I be blameless, innocent of great transgression.
Psalm 25:11
For the sake of your name, O LORD, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
Psalm 79:8-9
Do not hold against us the sins of the fathers; may your mercy come quickly to meet us, for we are in desperate need. Help us, O God our Savior, for the glory of your name; deliver us and forgive our sins for your name's sake.
In life you will always run into someone that angers you. This is because we are all human and it is our nature. Once you find the Lord and follow the teachings of Christ, you can be released from that anger. The apostles gave all kinds of advise to guide us through our struggles. Jesus gave us the Holy spirit to help us know when our nature is misleading us. God gave us his grace to cleanse all our faults. Once you get a hold of your own life help someone else that needs to be shown the way home.
Now that you know about Forgiveness, learn about Love
